Kombucha

Kombucha is a type of tea said to originate in China. It is fermented and touted as great for helping boost the immune system because it is a good source of probiotics. It also contains a healthy amount of antioxidants. Many people say it works to relieve herpes symptoms. But does it?

I couldn't find any studies backing kombucha. However, studies reveal some nasty side effects, especially when made incorrectly.

While fermented foods are generally suitable for digestion and overall health, those living with herpes should use caution, as kombucha contains high levels of histamine that can potentially trigger a herpes breakout. Of course, there's always one way to find out.

For this reason, I don't suggest kombucha for HSV unless you know and trust a reputable brewer. Also, do not drink kombucha if you have an autoimmune disorder or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, as it may aggravate symptoms.
