Manuka Oil

There seems to be confusion in the herpes community over precisely what manuka oil is. Manuka oil is not the same as or made from manuka honey.

Manuka oil is extracted from the manuka tree, particularly from the leaves and small branches. Manuka oil is antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal and is ten times stronger than tea tree essential oil essential oil. But does it work against HSV?

Manuka oil fights all drug-resistant gram-positive bacteria, viruses, and fungi while remaining non-toxic. Does this mean it can help to ease herpes-related symptoms?

There is evidence that manuka oil presents antiviral activity against HSV-1 and HSV-2 during specific breakout cycles.

"To determine the mode of antiviral action of the essential oil, manuka oil was added at different times to the cells or viruses during the infection cycle. ... At non-cytotoxic concentrations of the essential oil, plaque formation was significantly reduced by 99.5 % and 98.9 % for HSV-1 and HSV-2, respectively (NCBI)."

You can find manuka oil online through The Tarotpothecary. Still, other essential oils are known to work even better against HSV. I reveal them in The Herbal Remedies Recipe Guide.
