Is It Herpes or a Canker Sore?

Canker sores aren't related to the Herpes Simplex Virus. Still, like herpes, they are ulcers (one or more) that appear on the inner cheek, gums, tongue, or inside the lips of the mouth. Canker sores are caused by stress and eating too acidic foods, such as strawberries, tomatoes, pineapple, tomato sauce, and salsa. with many of the same natural remedies as for herpes breakouts.

You can ease the symptoms of canker sores and oral herpes on the inner cheek, gums, tongue, or inside lips of the mouth much the same way.

Canker Sore Remedies

L-Lysine is a crucial amino acid that helps restore the body's pH balance. You can crush a lysine tablet, make a paste with a drop of water or honey, and apply it to the canker sore for a few minutes. I don't suggest adding Aspirin to the mix to reduce pain. It won't hurt you to swallow either of them. However, aspirin has been known to cause Pruritus (all-over itching). Also, aspirin shouldn't be given to children 18 years old or younger for fever as it can cause Reye's Syndrome, which can be fatal.

For terrible pain, place a throat drop known for numbing action, such as Cepacol, on the canker sore. Rinse with salt water (the saltier, the better) at least 3-4 times per day.

Most people suffering from canker sores are deficient in vitamin B-12. For best absorption, use a B-12 nasal spray.

Alum (an herb) formed into a paste heals canker sores quickly. However, it must only be dabbed onto the center of the sore with a Q-tip, as it may burn healthy skin tissue. Because it can burn healthy skin tissue, I don't suggest trying this remedy unless it is all you have.

Place a zinc lozenge directly over the canker sore and let it dissolve. Always use the recommended dose as directed on the package. Do not exceed total zinc levels of 50 mg per day.

Jason's Seafresh Toothpaste or Squigle Toothpaste is known to help prevent canker sores.

OTC (over-the-counter) ideas for healing canker sores are Canker Melts, Canker Cover, Canker Care Plus (+), and Biotene (for dry mouth, which can cause canker sores).

NOTE: Please see your doctor if unsure whether it's a canker sore or the Herpes Simplex Virus and avoid kissing others or sharing glasses and utensils until you are sure you aren't contagious.
